What is Janumet?
Janumet 50mg/1000mg contains a combination of metformin and sitagliptin. Metformin and sitagliptin are oral diabetes medicines that help control blood sugar levels.
Metformin works by decreasing glucose (sugar) production in the liver and decreasing absorption of glucose by the intestines. Sitagliptin works by regulating the levels of insulin your body produces after eating.
Janumet is used together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
This combination medication is used with a proper diet and exercise program and possibly with other medications to control high blood sugar. It is used in patients with type 2 diabetes.
This product contains 2 medications. janumet 50mg 1000mg tablet works by increasing levels of natural substances called incretins. Incretins help to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release, especially after a meal. They also decrease the amount of sugar your liver makes. Metformin works by helping to restore your body’s proper response to the insulin you naturally produce. It also decreases the amount of sugar that your liver makes and that your stomach/intestines absorb.
janumet 50 mg comes as a tablet and is typically taken by mouth twice a day with meals.
The dosage will be based on your condition, kidney function, and response to the treatment.
Your doctor might start you on a low dose of Janumet and gradually increase it.
The maximum recommended dose for this drug is 100 milligrams (mg) of sitagliptin and 2,000 mg of metformin per day.
Tell your doctor if any of the following side effects become severe or don’t go away:
- Mild nausea, diarrhea, constipation, or upset stomach
- Metallic taste in the mouth
- Back pain
- Joint or muscle pain

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: severe breathing problems (such as obstructive lung disease, severe asthma), blood problems (such as anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency), kidney disease, liver disease, disease of the pancreas(pancreatitis), stones in your gallbladder (gallstones).
